The legend of Romolo and Remo
The legend of Romolo and Remo, Romulus and Remus (or according to some ancient authors Romo ) are, in the tradition of Roman mythological twin brothers, one of whom, Romulus, was the eponymous founder of the city of Rome and its first king.
The founding date is indicated by tradition to April 21, 753 BC (Also called Christmas in Rome and day Palilie). According to legend were the sons of Rhea Silvia (Rhea Silvia), descendant of Aeneas, and Mars .
There are countless versions of the legend of Romulus and Remus and the founding of Rome, all aimed at the glorification of the ancestors of the Romans and the Julian family (Gens Julia).
There are layers of different legends, and other “side branches details”, from time to time aimed at removing (or adding) honor and rights to the Romans.
The legend of the founding of Rome is reported by the Roman historian Livy in Book I of his History of Rome. It also refers Dionysius of Halicarnassus, Plutarch, Varro.
The legend of Romolo and Remo has always been deemed a fable, dating back to the period between the fourth and third centuries BC . For many critics the city of Rome had even formed only one hundred and fifty years later, at the time of the kings Tarquini (late seventh century B.C..) [Citation needed].
However, on the Palatine hill, during some exploratory work in 2007 he would found the Lupercal: this sanctuary, where the Romans worshiped the God Lupercus (Faunus Lupercus), breastfeeding is linked to the story of Romulus and Remus by the legendary she Wolf.
As it is told in the Aeneid, Aeneas, son of the goddess Venus, fleeing from Troy, now occupied by the Achaeans, with his father Anchise and his son Ascanio, while his wife Creusa, daughter of King Priam, perishes in the fire city.
After traveling widely in the Mediterranean, including the landing at Carthage where he was welcomed by Dido, Aeneas arrives in Latium in the territory of Laurento. Here he came in contact with the Aborigines of the Latino , clashes with Round, King of Rutuli, which will remain killed. Aeneas then decided to found a new city, giving it the name of Lavinium in honor of his wife Lavinia.
Later, the son of Aeneas, Ascanius, founded a new city called Alba Longa (thirty years after the foundation of Lavinio according Livy), which reigned on his descendants for many generations (from the twelfth to ‘ VIII century BC), until it came to the kingdom of Amulius, who had usurped the throne to his brother Numitor.
Numitor, who was the eldest, had inherited the ancient kingdom of Silvia Dynasty.

He forced, finally, the only daughter of his brother, Rhea Silvia to become a vestal, and then to make a vow of chastity, taking away the hope of becoming a mother.
However, the god Mars fell in love the girl and after it is owned by force in a sacred grove, where she had gone to draw water, made her the mother of the twins Romulus and Remus.
On the second of these two infants she was given the same name as rutulo leader beheaded in her sleep from Niso during the war between the Trojans and Italic:
“And the squire Remo kills, and the charioteer, coltolo own / among horses, and with iron severs dangling necks; / Then cuts the head to their lord, and it leaves the trunk / who winces in blood ”
